Official censures inaction of international organizations against Iran terrorist attack

  • Official censures inaction of international organizations against Iran terrorist attack

Iran's Deputy Judiciary Chief and Human Rights Headquarters Head Kazem Gharibabadi slammed the international organizations and the so-called advocates of human rights for their silence and inaction over the recent terror attack in Southeastern Iran which led to the martyrdom of four police officers.

In a letter to United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk on Wednesday, Iran’s top human rights official lashed out at the Western states and world bodies for keeping mum over the fatal raid on a traffic police patrol vehicle on the road connecting the towns of Khash and Taftan in Sistan and Baluchestan province.

“The heavy silence of international organizations and Western countries claiming [to advocate] human rights vis-à-vis the sinister phenomenon of terrorism, as well as their double standards towards the matter and classification of terrorists into good and bad, are the reason for continued crime of terrorism across the world, including the recent terrorist incident in the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Gharibabadi said.

The judiciary official also blasted certain governments that supported last year’s riots in Iran, which were sparked by the death of young woman Mahsa Amini at a hospital in the capital Tehran three days after she collapsed at a police station.

The governments “that hypocritically portrayed themselves as the supporter of the Iranian people and backed the rioters … with the aim of creating chaos and violence have now remained silent on the terrorist incident”, the rights chief added.

“The governments that have turned their countries into a safe haven for terrorists by granting them immunity are definitely causing the spillover of terrorism globally and have an international responsibility in the face of these crimes,” he continued.

Gharibabadi further emphasized that Iran’s capability and will to fight against terrorism should not provide an excuse for governments and international bodies to abdicate their responsibility to counter the scourge.

“It is crystal clear that inaction on this crime runs contrary to the international ‘principle of neutrality,’ strengthens the wrongful idea of the legitimatization of terror and will spread extremism and encourage terrorism,” he noted.

Iranian officials categorically rejected the Western countries' charges of supporting terrorism, and blamed the same Western states for turning into a safe haven for members of terror groups. They say Tehran has lost more people than any other country in the fight against terrorism, critisizing the Western countries for their double-standard policies on terrorism.

Iran has been the target of terrorist attacks in the past few decades and thousands of its citizens have been martyred by the terrorist groups. Officials described the country as the biggest victim of terrorism.

Tehran calls terrorism and extremism as result of the inefficiency of the current international situation, and stresses it wants a world free from violence and extremism.
