In the second part of the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, Kazem Gharibabadi, the Acting Head for International Affairs of the Judiciary and the High Council for Human Rights, presented a report on the measures taken during the second quarter of 2024 summer in areas related to citizen rights. He noted: “In this summer, 163 individuals convicted to Qisas were forgiven by the next of kin and their sentences were not executed, 100 of whom were as a result of the efforts of the Dispute Resolution Councils”.
Gharibabadi added: “During this same period, with the help of the Diyah Foundation and Charities, 3,377 prisoners of unintentional crimes were released from prisons across the country”.
Gharibabadi stated that in the summer of this year, 20,619 prisoners across the country were released from prison using legal concessions and judicial facilities, adding: “During the amnesty that took place on the occasion of the birthday of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the pardon and release, as well as the reduction of the sentences of 2,889 convicts, were agreed upon”.
The Acting Head for International Affairs of the Judiciary continued: “Also, in the third quarter of 2024, we witnessed the issuance of 48,433 alternative sentences to imprisonment by judges across the country”.
