In a meeting with head of Foreign Ministry’s Mission in East and North Iran in Mashhad Gholamabbas Arbab-Khales on Saturday, Iris Benom said that providing the refugees with shelter is difficult across the world and some countries including Iran have been successful in the issue of sheltering the refugees.
“Iran is second in the world in terms of hosting foreign nationals,” she said.
Arbab-Khales, for his part, said that some 600,000 Afghan nationals are residing in Razavi Khorasan province either having valid papers or without document.
Over one thousand Afghan nationals are entering Iran illegally a day, half of whom are arrested and deported to their country, he said.
Iran has been engaged with the issue of foreign refugees over the past 40 years and done its best to entertain foreign nationals, he said.
