Human Rights Talks

Iranian judiciary and human rights mission held a meeting with Swiss officials in Zürich, discussing administering judicial justice with regard to juvenile offenders, correctional centers, the amnesty systems and the comparison of the mentioned topics in both countries' judicial systems.

The Swiss officials considered the activities of correctional centers in Tehran as lively and educational. Moreover, the variety of measures taken by the Iranian judicial system with regard to respecting and preserving juveniles and their families' dignity and also teaching them different technical and artistic skills while serving their time in correctional centers were appreciated by the Swiss delegation.

Iranian delegation that was headed by Seyed Majid Tafreshi, Deputy of the HCHR International Affairs, also paid a visit to Zürich's correctional center and its management system.

The two countries' judicial delegations are supposed to discuss other topics such as dispute settlement before cases enter the court and also the delay in case processing.

The Swiss delegation also paid special attention to the Iranian amnesty system which occasionally pardons or commutes prison terms to tens of thousands of convicts every year.

Article 110 of the Islamic Republic Constitution grants the Supreme Leader the right to pardon or reduce the sentences of convicts upon a recommendation from the head of the judiciary.
