UN official examines negative effects of sanctions in Iran

  • UN official examines negative effects of sanctions in Iran
"The mission of the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, who is scheduled to travel to Iran, is simply to investigate the effects of sanctions on human rights, and he has no mission to investigate other issues," Secretary of Iran Judiciary's Human Rights Council said.

In 2014, the UN Human Rights Council adopted in a resolution the Special Rapporteur mechanism for examining the negative impacts of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights by individuals. Western countries vote against this resolution every year.

Secretary of Iran Judiciary's Human Rights Council and Deputy Judiciary Chief for International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said: "Countries under sanctions should use all available capacities to hold accountable the perpetrators of unilateral sanctions."

Before this, explaining the UN Special Rapporteur's visit to Iran, Kazem Gharibabadi said: "The Special Rapporteur's visit is an opportunity to get acquainted with the destructive impacts of sanctions on the Iranian people."
