Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights: We are trying to provide the ground for the release of Hamid Nouri

  • Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights: We are trying to provide the ground for the release of Hamid Nouri

Gharibabadi said: "Unfortunately, the Supreme Court of Sweden rejected the appeal of Mr. Nouri's lawyer without any logical reason. We are trying to provide the conditions for the release of Mr. Nouri, it is our duty to work in this field, although in the legal field, Mr. Nouri's lawyers are still working with the Swedish judicial system.

HCHR_Kazem Gharibabadi, the Vice President of the Judiciary for International Affairs and the Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights of I.R of Iran, in an interview with a reporter of Ilna news agency, said about the latest situation of transferring Iranian convicts and prisoners from other countries: “We have agreements with a wide range of countries on the transfer of convicts, and this work is being done repeatedly. That is, foreign prisoners who are in Iran are transferred to the related country within the framework of the agreement, and Iranian prisoners who are abroad are transferred to Iran within the framework of the same agreements.

The Secretary General of the HCHR stated: “There is difference between “exchanging” and “transferring” the convicts. The conditions are different, like the several times we had”. He continued: “On the exchange of convicts, there is nothing new, but the transfer of convicts is a routine work that is being done. Regarding Iranians whose rights are violated and caught, if we find out, we will naturally defend, even if the person himself has no demand, we will defend him simply because he is Iranian”.

He continued: “We’ve had various cases in this regard that we were informed through the media, we asked the ambassador of the related country and we followed up through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Because they are our countryman who are trapped somewhere and have been deprived of their rights or arrested for no reason”.

The Vice President of the Judiciary for International Affairs reminded: “We have people who were arrested on false claims and accusations of circumventing sanctions. We have taken many actions for them so far, and we were even able to release some of them in exchange of convicts, not because those claims were true, but because they had an incorrect basis and the right of an Iranian was violated”.

He emphasized: “If we find out that one of the Iranians is in trouble, even if they don't tell us, we will do everything we can, and naturally, we will use the various capacities we can to ensure that justice is done”.

Regarding the latest situation of Hamid Nouri, Gharibabadi said: “Unfortunately, the Supreme Court of Sweden rejected Mr. Nouri's lawyer's appeal without any logical reason, and this action was not acceptable to us at all, because there was no convincing basis and evidence in this regard”.

He added: “Nevertheless, we are now working in various fields to provide the ground for Mr. Nouri's release, and it is our duty to work in this field. Moreover, in the legal field, Mr. Nouri's lawyers are still working with the Swedish judicial system”.

The Secretary General of the HCHR noted: “Sweden's judicial system is not a fair judicial system, because from the beginning of this case, they dealt with it in a completely political manner, violated his rights, and now they have rejected the appeal without any convincing reason. We have no hope for the Swedish judicial system, but various political, legal and judicial efforts continue”.
