Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, heading a high-profile delegation, is scheduled to have a trip to Ankara Wednesday to attend the Iran-Turkey 5th meeting of the supreme council of strategic relations, IRNA reported.

The two-day trip is to happen upon invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Iranian President's Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications and Information Parviz Esmaeili said on Tuesday.

Holding the 5th meeting of the supreme council of strategic relations is one of the most important plans of the trip, Esmaeili said.

The idea of holding the council was the result of Rouhani's first visit to Turkey, he added.

He went on to say that both sides are expected to sign important documents in political, economic and cultural fields.

Rouhani is expected to leave Ankara for Tehran on Thursday evening, he added.
