Following the substitute punishments issued by courts as a replacement for imprisonment, Natural Resources officials in Golestan Province have demanded that the judiciary apply such punishments more often since they are much more beneficial to the nature, the Judiciary Chief in Golestan Province said.
Last year, under the supervision of Natural Resources experts, 7,300 trees were planted by convicts as substitute punishment for imprisonment, the official said.
He also said that such punishments are applied for trivial crimes which do not endanger the security of people and are also a big contribution to the correction of criminals in comparison to jail. However, the judiciary deals with dangerous criminals strictly, Hashemian added.
